I got to the lawn on a Sunday a lot later than I had hoped, and it was almost time for it to close to begin the "resting period" before they have a movie screening on the lawn on Monday night -- thousands of yuppies making frozen daiquiris, that sort of precious . But here it was still Sunday, and real people were on the lawn! I arrived in time to find this tall, rangy lightskinned black girl with a sweet face and sweet temperament to match having a chat as she smiled and rubbed her big, soft looking feet together. Man, the luck. So I sat down to shoot, noticing that I had about 20 minutes til they closed the lawn. And she just kept those big, soft feet down and rubbing the whole time. (Well, for about half the time -- the other half she stopped the footplay, so I have edited that out.) I was pretty close and she looked at me for extended periods of time, apparently unconcerned or even bemused? You be the judge. I can't complain because I got eighteen minutes of great footage, but they closed the lawn EARLY, the bastards! And this girl was actually pretty spunky about it -- when the guards came by and told her to get up, she said, "ok, I'll just be a minute," I guess because she hadn't finished her phone call yet! But the guards were determined, and they shooed her -- and me -- off the lawn. Funnily enough, we both were packed up to get off the lawn at about the same time, and we walked virtually side by side as we amscrayed to the pathway! I was tempted to say something to her, but didn't -- she seemed like such a sweet girl and I didn't want to get in her face.
